Tobacco is among world’s top killers. Every research has confirmed with concrete and incontrovertible evidences how lethal tobacco consuption is! Despite statutory warnings on cigarette packets people keep on smoking. We have not been able to stop tobacco farming through legislation or persuation. It seems that our medico-legal systems are out of gear otherwise how would we allow to be sold such virulent substance ike tobacco on market square stalls and public places? No welfare state can blatantly ignore the fatal impact of smoking on its population.Think of the change smokers endangering their lives and the lives of their family members by exposing them to passive smoking. The smokers who literally ignore statutory warnings on packets of cigarettes should be taken to hospital to wards to be shown the patients of carcinoma tongue, cancer of lung and the neck cancer. This probably would dissuade chronic cigarette addicts from indulging in mindless and hazardous activity like smoking. We must set up de-addiction centres exclusively for smokers in every district.Healthcare personnels should meet tobacco farmers and persuade them to stop growing tobacco on their farms in view of its lethal consequences on society. Some incentives should also be provided to tobacco farmers if they sign no tobacco agreement and switch over to other crops.Printing statutory warning on the packets of cigarettes is not enough. There should be photo plates of the patients of neck cancers on every cigarette packet to deter a smoker from this deadly addiction.
