The role of pranayam yogasana and meditation in psychosomatic diseasesMany diseases which are psycho-somatic in nature respond better to meditation pranayam and yogasana. As the range of psychosomatic ailments is vast yogasana, pranayam and meditaton can be used as an effective suppliment with the regular medication.Pranayam and meditation remains the same whereas yogasana changes with the nature and the severity of the ailment. The diseases full of anxiety and stress are more amenable to savasana(savasana is a yogic posture of lying relaxed like a corpse.).Pranayam or the control of breating is an act of inhaling the air with the right nostrill, retaining the air by pressing both the nostrils and then releasing the air through the left nostril.Pranayam facilitates better oxygen intake and improves health.Meditation helps overcoming anxiety and stress. In addition to pranayam meditation and yogasana morning walk of about 50 minutes is helpful in keeping the patient physically fit.Unless the walking is contra-indicated or the patient is disabled / bed-ridden walking should not be avoided.Avidance of stressful situations is advocated in almost all ailments becase generally stress has been found to aggravate ailments. The patients/relatives of patients desirous to know more about pranayam should read Patanjali’s yogsutra in translation.
The Poison On Sale
July 1, 2008
Tobacco is among world’s top killers. Every research has confirmed with concrete and incontrovertible evidences how lethal tobacco consuption is! Despite statutory warnings on cigarette packets people keep on smoking. We have not been able to stop tobacco farming through legislation or persuation. It seems that our medico-legal systems are out of gear otherwise how would we allow to be sold such virulent substance ike tobacco on market square stalls and public places? No welfare state can blatantly ignore the fatal impact of smoking on its population.Think of the change smokers endangering their lives and the lives of their family members by exposing them to passive smoking. The smokers who literally ignore statutory warnings on packets of cigarettes should be taken to hospital to wards to be shown the patients of carcinoma tongue, cancer of lung and the neck cancer. This probably would dissuade chronic cigarette addicts from indulging in mindless and hazardous activity like smoking. We must set up de-addiction centres exclusively for smokers in every district.Healthcare personnels should meet tobacco farmers and persuade them to stop growing tobacco on their farms in view of its lethal consequences on society. Some incentives should also be provided to tobacco farmers if they sign no tobacco agreement and switch over to other crops.Printing statutory warning on the packets of cigarettes is not enough. There should be photo plates of the patients of neck cancers on every cigarette packet to deter a smoker from this deadly addiction.
United Healthcare
April 4, 2008
Several states all over the country have been filing class action lawsuits against the insurance giant United HealthCare. The general public continues to believe that physicians in this country are all millionaires and are just in the practice of medicine to make lots of money. In this day and age nothing is farther from the truth except for perhaps the elective plastic surgeons who work on the boobs and botox end of the spectrum. The reason the plastics practice can thrive is because most of there work is not covered by insurance so they can actually collect what they charge for their services and make a living. Physicians these days are pretty much under the control of insurance companies who are in charge of what they make. The ones that are making million and billion dollars worth of money each year are not the physicians who are out there on a day in and day out basis but the insurance companies that control every aspect of healthcare. United Healthcare is on of the worse in this writers opinion. They pay their physicians at a less then adequate fee schedule and reimbursement at some procedures is less than the medicare and medicaid fee schedules. United Healthcare also employs such a hiarchy of complicated measures to actually get a claim paid correctly that some physician offices waste more time and money on trying to get paid then the actual claim itself cost. This is no doubt a direct tactic for this insurance company to pocket even more money. Physicians have lost all control over there financial situation when it comes to dealing with United Healthcare. This company is completely out of control on their deceptive trade practices with physician and hospital entities. They continue to pay physicians at lower than contracted rates and then they only fix the problem if a class action suit is brought against them. They are the most unreputable insurance company out there in my meager opinion. They use unfair tactics and there profit margin is beyond imagination. UHC is growing at a rapid rate and it is up to the public and physicians to stop them from there unfair and deceptive practices. I have yet to find any physicians that I have spoken with that are happy with this company. It sure does make Canada and universal healthcare seem like the only way to actually get control out of the hands of these profiteering insurance companies and back in the hands of the American public and the physicians who take on the daily tasks of caring for these individuals regardless of the levels of reimbursment that they are being paid.

Ford to Settle Explorer Rollover Cases
November 28, 2007
Ford agreed today to settle a group of 4 class-action lawsuits covering covering plaintiffs who say their Explorer SUVs were prone to rollovers.
The settlement applies to around 1,000,000 people in 4 states (CA, CO, IL and TX), said attorney Kevin P. Roddy of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer.
If a judge gives preliminary approval to the settlement, consumers who owned the Explorers in question (model years 1991 through 2001) will be able to apply for either $500 vouchers to buy new Explorers or $300 vouchers to buy other Ford or Lincoln Mercury products. A website and toll-free number will be announced, and Explorer owners affected by the settlement will be notified by via postal mail.
Furthermore, the settlement would also require Ford to both give out information about SUV rollover dangers and tone down the safety claims in its advertising.
A final approval for the settlement is tentatively planned for April.
Suit Against T-Mobile for Early Termination Fees and Phone-Locking
October 16, 2007
The California Supreme Court has recently ok’d a class-action lawsuit against T-Mobile. The plaintiffs in the case are T-Mobile customers, and they are seeking two things:
- To prevent T-Mobile from charging a fee for early contract termination (currently the fee is about $200)
- To require T-Mobile to unlock cell phones if customers decide to switch carriers (so that customers aren’t forced to purchase a new cell phone)
Practices such as charging early terminations fees and locking phones are standard among major carriers (such as AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint Nextel), so if T-Mobile loses this lawsuit, major changes to the relationship between carriers and customers could result. For instance, carriers might have to do away entirely with early termination fees, or might be required by law to unlock phones when a subscriber requests it.
But carriers claim that locking the phones is the only way they are able to make a profit — that if they are forced to unlock phones, consumers will have to start paying a lot more to purchase cell phones. So who knows — if the plaintiffs end up winning, the decision could end up being a bad thing for some consumers.
Here are some other blog entries on the T-Mobile class action case from Ars Technica, Slashdot, and iPod Observer.
P.S. - Several weeks ago, a separate (but similar) class-action lawsuit was filed against Apple regarding software locks on Apple’s iPhone.
