New study on Viagra II

March 26, 2008

Viagra was tolerated in the right way, without any serious deviations from the treatment of patients due to side effects.

“These results show that Viagra offers the people ED greater flexibility than what they perceive at the moment,” said Dr. Harin Padma Nathan, a professor of clinical urology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. “So, as a result of a new survey of sexual habits among men and their peers in the United Kingdom shows that the treatment of Viagra is indicated in the right way to meet the needs of the population”.

The survey, conducted among more than 1,000 men and women in Britain showed that men suffering from ED spent an average of 53 minutes after thought maintain sexual activity until they began it.
The survey also found that 87% of men who suffer from ED sex practiced only once every 24 hours. The survey was conducted to better understand how men between 40 and 69 years old, suffered erectile dysfunction or not, they performed their close contacts, and was also presented at the annual meeting of the ESSIR.

When asked by the importance of practicing sex more than once every 24 hours, only 19% of men and 11% of women said that it was very important or was vital. The results of the findings of this survey coincide with the one held last year to more than 1,000 men and women in the United States.

“These results demonstrate that the unique clinical profile of Viagra on the duration of at least four hours and with minimal side effects, it meets the real needs of patients who suffer from ED,” said Dr. Mike Sweeney, director of the medical group leader Pfizer urology.

Viagra is a prescription medication used only available by prescription from doctors and should always be used in accordance with the recommendations set out. The use of Viagra is contraindicated in patients who use nitrates in any form and at any time. The most common side effects of Viagra are headaches, indigestion and facial irritation.

Report from UK Links Viagra to 102 Deaths

August 1, 2005

Newsinferno.com is reporting that viagra has been linked to over 100 deaths in the UK–not good news for Pfizer, already facing lawsuits over the drug:

According to a breaking story, the Daily Mail (UK) is reporting that: “Government figures show that since the drug was launched seven years ago doctors have reported 102 deaths linked to it.”

This report linking Viagra to a significant number of deaths follows recent claims that the drug may also be responsible for cases of blindness and other serious side-effects including heart attacks, angina, eye pain, and vomiting.

While the report suggests that some of the deaths may have been caused by the drug “exacerbating existing heart conditions, particularly in men with blood-pressure problems,” many may be the result of “unfit men overexerting themselves.”

According to Dr. John Griffin, former editor of the medical journal Adverse Drug Reactions, the true death figures could be up to 10 times higher than government records show since previous “research has shown that only one in ten adverse drug reactions is reported. That means in the case of Viagra the real number of deaths may 1,000.”

First Viagra lawsuit filed!

June 9, 2005

…and there are probably many more to come.

A press release I just saw in the Yahoo! Financial News section is stating that a class action suit was filed against Pfizer on behalf of Texans. It states that “Plaintiffs were unaware of alleged side effects in which a drop in blood pressure restricts the flow of oxygenated blood to the optic nerve causing irreversible vision loss and blindness.”

Here’s some background, from a Reuters article entitled Houston man sues Pfizer for Viagra blindness:

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A Houston man filed a lawsuit this week in federal court against Pfizer, claiming he suffered blindness after taking its best-selling impotence drug Viagra.

James Thompson filed the civil suit against Pfizer in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas on Tuesday and is seeking more than $75,000 (41,198 pounds) for his vision loss.

He is also seeking class-action status because it has been estimated that 23 million people have taken Viagra, the trade name for the drug Sildenafil, since 1998.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said last month it had received more than 40 reports of blindness in men taking impotence drugs, but had not determined if the drugs were responsible.

The first pretrial hearing is scheduled for November 4th.
